Flipping the Switch

Its time for your site to go live, you’re tired of looking at that old thing you used to call a website and you’re ready to flip the switch and tell everyone you know about the new site! First, here’s what to expect.

 

• Pointing the DNS –  When your site is ready to be launched we will point your address (www.example.com) to either our server (if hosting with us) or to a server of your choice. Unfortunately, this process is not an instant one: it can take from a few minutes to a 48 hours to fully switch over. During this time you may notice that visiting your site may show your new pages then suddenly switch back to the older page. This is normal and will resolve with time, in most cases it only takes a few hours to fully change over. It is important to refresh your page as certain aspects of your site may not look correct during this process. If you notice this process is taking longer than 48 hours, feel free to contact us.

• Switching Over the Email – The process of switching over email is similar to that of a website. When we make the switch with your registrar company, it may take up to 48 hours for emails to fully switch over. During this time you may receive some emails in your new email box and some in your older email box. It is for this reason that we do not cancel any old email hosting accounts until at least 48 hours after switching. After we are sure that the email has fully successfully switched over to the new email account we can transfer over any emails that didn’t make it from the old email to the new one. After that, your email will be successfully transferred over and ready to use.
